So I used to make this joke all the time. Now I have chronic tinnitus. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s nerve damage in your ears which often comes as a result of being constantly exposed to very loud noise for a long period of time. The nerve damage results in a constant ringing/buzzing in your ears. So far there’s no cure. The severity of it varies, and I’m lucky to have a mild case, which I can barely hear during the day and is easy to block out at night. That said, loads of people with tinnitus aren’t so lucky. Severe tinnitus can’t be blocked out. Those who suffer from it also suffer from severe loss of sleep, depression, anxiety…. the list goes on. Tinnitus also comes with a degree of hearing loss in most cases, making it even harder to ignore. In fact, some people with severe tinnitus kill themselves just to make the ringing stop. Tinnitus can be so severe that it drives a person to suicide. Chronic tinnitus used to mostly be prevalent in older people who worked for years with loud machinery etc, but all of a sudden it’s becoming more common in our generation. Why? Because of people, like me, who listened to their music too goddamn loudly through their headphones.
Deaf by the time you’re 20? Please. That’s the least of your worries.
Please reblog. This post reminded me to move my music further away and turn it down. Someone else may need to be more cautious of their shit too.
Chronic mild tinnitus here, too, due to too many metal concerts in my youth. Turn your headphones down a little. Wear earplugs at concerts. Protect your ears.
Your eyes have an iris that can shrink down, and eyelids that can squint shut, to protect them from light that is too bright. Your ears have NOTHING to block out sounds that are too loud. It’s up to you.
Tinnitus sufferer from drumline in high school checking in. These days I wear earplugs at concerts, rehearsals, clubs, and even movies sometimes. Get yourself a set that look like these ones:
Etymotics Research was one of the first companies I’m aware of to widely market with this
sort of ear plug, and they’re great, because they reduce noise fairly
evenly across the spectrum, and so you hear everything accurately, just
quieter. While they’re certainly more expensive than the foam earplugs
that you see everywhere, they also are washable and last for months and
months, and sound great, if not better than without for live music. Please protect your ears. There is no way to recover lost
hearing.
Apparently I had this. I just thought silence was a ringing sound
you also might have even been “born” with this. a lot of people with sensory issues (especially autistic or ADD/ADHD people) experience this when it’s silent around them but havent actually hurt their ears with music at all.
so its also a sensory processing thing and you can be “born” with it (aka develop with it in childhood) like i have
Wait I thought that ringing was normal?? I hear ringing when its dead silent are you seriously saying my ADHD causes this???? I thought everyone had that???!!??!
normal people dont have that ringing noise. while it’s minor in cases of sensory development issues from developmental disorders, it can be severe if a person with a developmental disorder listens to loud music. i know that sometimes during a sensory overload from autism, the ringing will become terribly loud
Oh lord ok. Be careful with loud noises. Gotcha. I didnt realize not everyone hears that ringing. I thought it was normal so I never asked if anyone else heard it too. Thanks for the warning about loud music! Ive always tried to avoid going to concerts because of the ringing but I thought it was a thing everyone put up with and that I was being a wimp. Im glad I have an explanation!
If I sound pleased about this, it’s only because my programmers made this my default tone of voice! I’m actually quite depressed! | PayPal | Patreon
when is was like 5 i thought it was like, a normal constant sound that came with being alive on a populous planet/in the universe, kinda like gravity or light or smthn, until I figured out that other people can actually hear silence
I always thought it was just the music, but I didn’t listen to music much until I was in my teens… I’ve never heard a second of silence in my life. o: Another downside to autism… at least there are some upsides to focus on.
Look, I dont know a lot about saints and Catholicism, but I know St. Agatha is always depicted with her breasts on a plate, and that’s sure something
Just a few more. This is a big trend.
Things I learned from the comments
She’s a patron saint of rape and abuse victims
She took a vow a chastity
A low born guy demanded her to be with him and she turned him down
For this she was imprisoned and tortured. This is how she lost her breasts (details not required)
She was repeatedly raped.
The Catholic Church regards her as a virgin for her peity despite the rape. (No matter your views on virginity this is a pretty interesting statement)
She was sentenced to death to burn at the stake but was saved by an earthquake
In her holiday people make titty cupcakes
I didn’t know she existed and now I think she’s a pretty rad woman. I would hesitate calling her a protofeminist as some often do with amazing women in history but she is pretty cool. Also she’s still very relevant today as women are still treated the way she was.
other things i learned: damn historic artists drew a woman with her own tits on a plate with Cleavage and prominent nip nops???
So good! A much more introspective piece. Beautifully structured.
I shouldn’t be shocked that this inspired a drabble XD Enjoy guys.

Steve sat in an old armchair, staring out the floor-to-ceiling window of your home. Lights off. Street dark and quiet. Only the moon cast a shadow over the studio apartment.
He’d left your bed and warm body sometime around midnight. It must have been a few hours since then at least. He just couldn’t quiet his mind. Couldn’t shake his doubts. It had been a while now since he left the Avengers behind in search of himself.
Of course, he didn’t leave them all behind. Try as he might, he couldn’t bring himself to leave you. It felt like you were the only one who wasn’t trying to turn him into someone. Who wasn’t looking to him for some sort of guidance. You just looked at him like an ordinary man.
He needed that. To feel ordinary again.
The floorboards creaked behind him, and for once tension didn’t fill his body. His hand didn’t twitch for a weapon. There weren’t even weapons nearby. Your fingers brushed against his cheek and he knew you’d done this to him. Tamed his fighter instincts. Domesticated him.
Your arms came around his shoulders, one hand sliding down his bare chest as you rested your face next to his. “Can’t sleep?” you said.
He hummed an affirmative, his hands moving up to wrap around your arms. “I didn’t wake you?”
“No. I just rolled over and you weren’t there.”
“Sorry. You can go back to bed.”
You pressed your lips to his temple. “Not without you.”
With a smile to himself, he tugged on your arms until you shifted around the side of the chair and slid into his lap. His kissed your forehead as your nails scraped through his beard. He’d been vain enough to keep it when you’d confessed how much you loved it. There was one place, in particular, you loved to feel it, and the thought had his hand sliding up the inside of your thigh to trace along the edge of your underwear.
You hummed and shifted against him. “Talk to me. Then we can take those off.”
He chuckled and pulled you in tighter, his eyes shifting back to the street below. “I’m okay.”
“That doesn’t mean something’s not wrong.”
It took him a moment to pinpoint it. To figure out why he had this hollow feeling in his heart when everything he could have asked for was sitting right there in his lap. Then it hit him.
“I don’t know who I am anymore,” he whispered.
You rested your head against his shoulder and rubbed your hand along his chest. “You’re a lot of things, Stevie. For a lot of different people. To Bucky, you’re a friend. That kid from Brooklyn who won’t run from a fight. To Tony, you’re Captain America. A story his father left behind. And to the rest of the world, you’re a soldier. A hero.”
“And you?” Steve said as he ran his fingers through your hair. You looked up at him. “Who am I to you?”
You smiled and played with his beard once more. “You’re the man who could look past all the blood on my hands. Who saved my life. Gave me a second chance. To me, you’re just the man I love.”
He hadn’t realised how much he needed to hear someone say that to him until you did. How much he needed someone to love him as just the man he was. Your hand was warm against his lips when he kissed your palm.
“Who do you want to be, Steve?” you said as you brushed his hair back behind his ear.
He smiled at you and hoped that you could see in his eyes how much he loved you because he knew saying it wouldn’t be enough. “I just want to be yours for a while.”
You took his face in your hands and shifted until you could look at him dead on. “You are a good man, Steve. That’s all that matters. You don’t have a thing to prove to anybody.”
It hit him how well you actually knew him. It seemed you knew what he needed before he did. He realised that it didn’t matter who he thought he was. As long as he was with you, he was exactly who he had to be.
Weirdly anti-millennial articles have scraped the bottom of the barrel so hard that they are now two feet down into the topsoil
its so wild like “this generation with no fucking money is learning to prioritize essentials” and all these chucklefucks can write is advertisements for these companies
at least our jeans won’t tear at the seams after two washes
FUCK FABRIC SOFTENER IT’S UTTERLY POINTLESS
AND FUCK DRYER SHEETS LITERALLY NOBODY EVER HAS ENOUGH OF A PROBLEM WITH STATIC TO WARRANT PAYING OUT THE ASS FOR THAT SHIT
DO YOU WANT CLEAN CLOTHES? YOU DON’T EVEN NEED TO BUY FUCKING DETERGENT JUST MAKE YOUR OWN* IT’S SO GODDAMN EASY AND 80X CHEAPER
FUCK THE ENTIRE LAUNDRY INDUSTRY
*Fuck The Entire Laundry Industry Recipe
1 cup Washing Soda (not Baking Soda. Different things.)
1 cup Borax (not Boric Acid. Also a different thing.)
½ cup – 1 cup grated bar soap (you can use literally anything. I often use Ivory because it’s easy to get and I find it works well, a lot of people like Fels-Naptha, which is an actual laundry bar. Some people use Dr. Bronner’s. Really does not fucking matter.)
After grating your soap, combine all ingredients. That’s it. That’s the whole thing. Use maybe a ¼ cup per load.
^^^ I’ve done this for years now and it works as well as any store bought detergent
WHAT Thank you, tumblr user awfullydull! Your URL does no justice to the good advice you give!
Also you can MAKE your own washing soda very VERY cheaply.
Step one: acquire $5 bag of baking soda from Costco.
Step two: lay that motherfucking baking soda out on a baking tray.
Step three: bake the baking soda on a tray in an oven at 400° for 1 hour (to make the moisture evaporate, leaving washing soda)
Step four: revel in how easy and cheap it is to make your own washing soda, and maybe take a moment to be angry that the industry upcharges the fuck out of something that is so easy to make.
I see some of y’all complaining about static and/or wanting nice smelling laundry. Go to a craft store, find 100% wool yarn balls. If it doesn’t come in a ball, ask an employee to make it into a tight ball for you. Wash in the washing machine to make it felted. Remove from washer, add a few drops of essential oil to the ball, allow to seep in. Dry with clothing. Doesn’t need to be rewashed ever, and if it stops smelling, add few more drops of essential oil. Bam, reusable dryer sheets.
I love this post so much it’s filled with helpful advice, hatred, saving money, and fucking the system all in one
