The Embassy, soon after the fall of the Extulian home world, had a surplus of aliens to take care of. Homeless and injured needed to be taken care of and once more the humans rose. They built massive structures and sent them to space, even building on their own worlds. Each ship, Each building perfectly designed for comfort and caring of many different species.

The Humans opened their homes and offered up their crafts. With skillful organization the Humans gathered up the homeless and gave them homes. Even giving scared and wide eyed Extulians a place among them.

Humans where savages on the battlefield, tearing down anyone who stood in their path.

But.

They were also artisans. Humans may not have to most advanced of technology but the entire universe stood in awe of their persistence. They did not let their restrictions limit them. They built monuments, a testament to their protective nature.

Massive ships and buildings meant to house the homeless. Where the Embassy had been doing everything they could to take care of their new people they too where stunned at the humans. The humans built and built and re-imagined and ventured “What if,” The Embassy and The Galaxy itself had to stand back and watch the humans raise these war torn planets and restore life to where there was once devastation.

Most races would have stopped. Thinking they had done enough by just fighting, but not the humans. No. They rose to the challenge once more, With their tools and minds at the ready. They sent out their workers this time, Architects and carpenters, and Construction workers. They sent Farmers and Teachers, They sent Scientists and Doctors.

The Galaxy was once taught that Humans where not to be fought, Now they stood humbled by the love these small creatures displayed.

They asked not for servitude, not even for payment. The humans bartered with knowledge. All they wanted was to learn about these new people, Their culture, their language. They shared meals and let their children play together. They shared stories and with those things, came unbreakable bonds of loyalty. There was no need for a legal alliance when the races shared a loyalty forged in war and freedom.

Humans may have a dark history, filled with blood and turmoil. They may have done despicable things to their own people. But. They always tried to progress, They always tried to move forward, get better, To BE better.

Humans where tenacious in their pursuit of equality and progress.

A witch puts a spell on a girl, a sleeping spell that promises the girl shall wake through true love’s kiss. Men come and kiss her. She slumbers. Women come and press their lips to hers, but still she sleeps. Many years past, and the girl remains still. One bright morning,  a lost little boy finds her resting spot and clears the dust and grime from her face. He offers her a kiss on her forehead, and her eyes flutter open. She never feels romantic love for a man nor a woman, and she cares for the boy until the day she dies.

A young woman is imprisoned in a castle by a monstrously formed prince. The servants of the castle hope for them to fall in love, and when the spell is broken they assume their prayers have been answered. They are all surprised, but nonetheless pleased, when it is revealed to them that the young woman and prince are the truest of friends, and nothing more.

They say the kingdom is ruled by an evil queen, a woman who is incapable of loving. She is unmarried, she has no consorts, and she wishes for no partner. She is the wretched queen, the heartless queen. She must hate her daughter, for her daughter is beautiful, and women are incapable of liking another woman who’s prettier than themselves. It must be for this reason that the princess was sent away, not for how she was attacked by a man in the woods. They say the kingdom is ruled by an evil queen because she cannot love. The queen loves her daughter, and that is enough for them both.

There lives a prince who is forced to choose a bride at the ball. He meets many beautiful women, but find none which he loves. He spies one in a gorgeous gown and wonder in her eyes, and he dances with her all night long. The kingdom is sure he has found his bride. When the clock strikes midnight he tells her how he will never love a woman, or a man, in the way he is expected to. The beautiful woman smiles and tells him she expects nothing from him. The next morning the prince and the beautiful woman are missing, having run off together to see the world. They leave their shoes behind in their haste.

Many kinds of love exist. It doesn’t all have to be romantic.

Love this so much

This is probably the best ukulele playing I’ve ever seen.

It’s always wild when people are amazed by proper Ukulele playing because what they consider “good” is whatever mainlanders are attempting to play while asserting some “quirky” vibe. Ukulele has become trendy on the mainland and people are amazed by what we consider BASIC skills and boring same chord repetition over and over. PLUS malihini don’t even pronounce the name right (what the fuck is a yuu-kuu-lay-lee hahaha).

Here in Hawaiʻi we are busting it out (like these killer wahines) every day in ways you can’t even imagine. Half my nā hoahānau play like this!

We stay laughing. These wahines choke deadly.

This must be what surf rock guitarists were trying to emulate in the 60’s. It’s so fucking good.

GIRL WHHHHHHHHHHHAT PLAYING THOSE LEGENDARY RIFFS WITH FULL-ON BEAUTIFUL NAILS OMGGGGG . THAT IS SOME GOD TIER TALENT RIGHT THERE

WHO ARE THESE AMAZING PEOPLE

Honest Posters of Our Relationship with Technology

Designer Ajit Johnson, living in England, has imagined a series of posters called “#This_Generation”. With honesty, the posters show anecdotes linked to our daily relationship with technology and social networks.

image

No one thinks selfie sticks are cool except tourists and rich white girls at the club.

Ok, normally I just roll my eyes and scroll past these, but this time I felt the need to comment:

1. Hiding porn on your computer? Wow, previous generations never did anything like that. Nobody ever hid adult magazines under their bed so much that it became a trope in movies. Nah. Never.

2. Online/skype date? Yeah, you can talk face-to-face with the people that matter to you even when you can’t get out to meet them physically, isn’t that amazing?

3. If I was lost and dying out in the wilderness somewhere, and I saw some
I dunno, some outpost that had wifi for some reason, you bet your ass I’d get tf over there and use it to get help/use a map/tell people where I am.

4. Did you know you can read books on your smartphone/tablet AS WELL AS being actively social??

5. I’m pretty sure technology is not to blame for kids getting pregnant/overweight/depressed. Side note, isn’t it great that those kids can use the internet to search for help and advice?

6. In a world where everyone is so much more connected thanks to social media, it’s really useful that you can block people who hurt you and protect yourself. I don’t really see the downside here.

7. It ain’t technology’s fault that some asswipes use their phone while driving. Just let those schoolkids text their parents to tell them when they’re gonna get home in peace.

8. Yeah, selfie sticks aren’t cool. But it IS cool that people can save their memories in pictures and photo albums at the click of a button, without needing to buy cameras and film, get the film developed, and then have big ol’ photo albums sitting around the house everywhere?

9. I swear nobody’s typed like that since 2009. But hey, culture, slang and dialect change with times regardless of whether it’s spoken or typed.

10. You’re right, poster. Happiness is being able to chat to your family and friends no matter the distance. Especially when they’re online and able to respond quickly. That’s nice.
