yesterday my country had 300 active fires.
people are losing EVERYTHING they own.
i have a friend that is on a train right now passing through places that have been burnt to the ground and she says the smoke is so intense itâs getting inside the train and she can barely breathe.
and yet, even though several people (myself included) have been trying to bring awareness to what has been happening in southern europe⊠what we get from most of you, those not part of the countries suffering, is silence. we donât ask for money, we donât ask for shit other than a reblog to spread awareness⊠something you can delete in 24/48hrs if you wish.Â

This is fucking important. I am glad someone fucking spoke about this and said what they had to say. The damage is terrible, and all the evergreen, stone, even the ground is black. I was fucking terrified when Croatia was burning. The fire was near a village where I like and I thought it will burn down. I thought the church will burn down. I thought the cemetery where my grandpa is buried will burn. I still remember the smell of smoke, and when I went to check how bad is fire, my clothes and hair and skin all stunk of smoke. It didnât go away for weeks.

Hello please donât blame individuals for their countryâs news outlets refusing to cover things. This is awful and we do care, we just need to be told itâs happening.
This shit is happening and our ânewsâ outlets deign to report on such inconsequential things as the shenanigans of celebrities instead, and it is INFURIATING.
Platonic love is real love and shouldnt be treated like less becuase it isnt romantic. Defining love as only romantic is a terrible concept. You should be able to love people in a platonic way as much as romantic way and not be seen as less
The Greeks were so much wiser than us modern folk, when talking about love. They believed it existed in eight different forms:
1. Eros (erotic love). This is, simply put, the sexual attraction you feel towards someone. In its best form, passion can be transformative⊠but it can also become destructive if not kept under control.
2. Philos (friendship). This is the love we treat as lesser in the modern world. Ironically, the Greeks considered it superior to eros as philos was considered a love between two equals and free of the animalistic pull of sexual desire. Philos is the kind of love two warriors whoâve shared a foxhole feel for one another.
3. Storge (familial love). This is the love and pride we take in our kinsmen and lifelong friends. For those who are deeply attached to their family name, who remember family members who pass on with great fondness⊠This is the name the Greeks, a culture based very much on accruing honour to oneâs name and descendants, bestowed on this form of love, as it was so very important to them.
4. Ludus (playful love). The affection between young lovers, this is what we modern folk call âpuppy love.â The flirting, teasing and childlike euphoria at being in a new relationship is all part and parcel of this form of love. The Greeks felt that love should have a sense of fun and play; it need not be serious 100% of the time.
5. Mania (obsessive love). This is what happens when love gets scary, and is the purview of stalkers and the most deluded among us. The Greeks believed that this occurs when thereâs an imbalance between the presence of ludus and eros in oneâs psyche. Those who experience this form of love also become codependent, and may be perpetrators of abuse of their loved ones.
6. Pragma (enduring love). This is a mature form of love, having aged like fine wine with time. Itâs commonly seen in couples who have been married for decades, and is something we all secretly yearn for â the companionship that looks beyond our limitations, yet loves us for our frail humanity. A love where we are accepted unconditionally and will never stray from us. Itâs hard to find, and takes a lot of time and patience to cultivate.
7. Philautia (self-love). This is where having a âpositive mental attitudeâ and engaging in self-care comes in. The Greeks understood that, in order to care for others, we must first tend to ourselves. This is not a sense of vanity, but an awareness and acceptance of who you really are, showing yourself compassion in darker times.
8. Agape (brotherhood). This is the greatest form of love there is, and the hardest to aspire to. It demands nothing less than feeling love for all human beings, compassion for all creatures, an acceptance and forgiveness of the flaws of humanity, and the desire to ease the pain of those who suffer. To see in the eyes of every human being your brother, your sister â when humanity, in your mind, becomes your extended family. Itâs not about paying lip service to religions that preach compassion, itâs about showing love for others in every word and deed.
So, if you thought romantic love (eros) was all there is to knowing and feeling love? You thought wrong. Letâs learn to love love in all its forms.
The way I see it, America will eventually have the choice between forgiving student debt or facing the massive destabilization caused by an entire generation being unable to build any wealth.
By destabilization I mean that the millennial generation will eventually become aware of the fact that they will be enslaved by their student debt for most of, if not their entire lives.
Many in this generation still had parents that were able to save and contribute financially to their childrenâs college education, but thatâs also going to be a thing of the past when everyone has their own debt burden to carry well into adulthood – meaning the problem will become unimaginably worse for the next generation.
Once people realize this, youâve got a social powder keg unheard of since the social question poised by the industrial revolution.
The entire student loan system is little more than a scheme meant to extract every last bit of present and future wealth from societyâs youngest members, and the longer it continues, the uglier its inevitable end is going to be.
and so many millennials are choosing not to get married, or have kids because of all the debts they owe.Â
its having much more severe consequences than people want to admit.

Every single year the same things happens in Greece, every damn summer our country is burned, people lose their houses and families, then no one cares and the cycle repeats.
Its not just a weather issue, there is always a greater evil hidden behind all of this and nothing changes.
Last year my house almost burned, we were lucky on the last minute but I can still remember the fear of the people around me, running around and trying to help, the panicked animals and the sickening anxiety that I might lose my house and my cat.
Funny how when people think about Greece all they talk about is our economic crisis and shitty politicians (and even dare to act like they know everything about those matters), yet for some strange reason, when it comes to the refugee crisis, the tensions with Turkey or the fire catastrophes, silence ensues.
Iâm positive that if it were a stronger country or a âpopularâ one getting burned, everyone would magically transform into Mother Teresa and pray, cry and reblog everything they can.
But no, this is Greece, the âjoke of Europeâ, or, as all fandoms here know it, âthat one ancient country with the really cool mythology and godsâ. No future or innocent people to worry about, right?
This is so true. I did a test yesterday: I reblogged posts about the Fire in both my blogs (one of them being a Greece travel blog, fancy that), overall potential of 6000 followers. The number of reblogs I got was disheartening. And the vast majority was from Greek followers.
Had I reblogged something pale in comparison about USA, or at least UK or at the very least France, people would be all over it.Â

No one gives a shit about Greeks nowadays. No one gives a shit about small or weak countries. No one gives a shit about something that doesnât affect them personally. I saw a Portuguese person reblogging the post because they said last year when Portugal was on fire, nobody cared and they didnât want the same thing to happen to Greece. I feel terribly sorry and I salute that person.Â
And one more thing: those of you who claim you love Greece, Greek mythology, you are Philhellenes, you can explain in detail how Leonidasâ sacrifice affected the invasion of the Persians in the European continent or you even eat Gyros and dance Syrtaki, hereâs a secret, you donât know shit about Greece. Literally nothing.Â
Many of you might wonder âokay what is this sudden outburst, where did all this come fromâ. But I donât care if it seems out of place. I know where it comes from and fellow Greeks know where it comes from. And thatâs enough for me right now.Â
