king of the squirrels still believes in Santa, and writes him a letter every year. Unfortunately, the other egos don’t pay that much attention to him, so they never try to read his Christmas list before he mails it. King of the squirrels just thinks he’s never been good enough to get presents from Santa, and Christmas usually just ends up with him disappointed while Wilford is surrounded in presents that are actually from dark. But one year, one ego secretly buys him presents- and he is SO happy

incorrect-ego-quotes:

me, in tears: don’t do this my favorite nature boi, and dont make me relate to him

king sits in the meeting room, quietly sobbing into his hands. his peanut butter washed off his face for once, wearing his crown proudly as he cries. alone, as wilford laughs in the next room, opening gift after gift from santa. the other egos merry and bright as they laugh along, eating their share of cookies and gingerbread.

…why did santa hate him?

…why was he forgotten every year? his letter was sent, his stocking was hung up, and king even left a cookie in the shape of a squirrel so santa would remember him.

and now, here he was, only getting a single candy cane and a treat bag full of peanut butter cookies.

“…what did i do?” he looks up to the ceiling, “wilford…kills people, i save animals and…and help everyone. i don’t curse or yell or be a bully. i…i just want one good christmas.” he sobs harder, holding his empty stocking, “/please./”

king doesn’t notice the other ego looking into through the glass. he doesn’t notice the ego hold their hand over their mouth, how could anyone forget king? how…well, he knew what is was like to be forgotten.

he knew that feeling too well.

well, it was only 6 am – he still had time. he still had time to make this right. he just needed to rush.

***

night fell on the ego’s office. wilford walking away with bags full of gifts, yandereplier giggling as she played with her new knife set, dark holding the black teddy bear wilford had got him close as they drove away. the other egos out and about, nobody in the main lobby where the tree stood tall.

perfect.

the ego set down the carts upon carts upon carts of gifts. all picked out for king, all wrapped in gold wrapping paper and red ribbon, smiling as they removed their coat and mittens. taking out the candy they bought and stuffing king’s stocking to the brim, smiling as they blushed at their good deed. excited to see the young ego’s reaction.

“king!! get down here!!” the ego rushed through, king wiping his tears as he stood from the meeting room.

“wha? what’s wrong?!” he wipes his red eyes, “is it my subjects?!”

“no, i…” shit, here came the lie, “i…saw santa in the lobby. he made a mistake and swung back around, you gotta come see this.”

king follows as the egos pulls them along.

and boy, does he start crying again.

its perfect, the gifts shining and stocking stuffed, glowing in the fire from the chimney. sparking about as he gasps, sniffling more. he…he heard his wishes!! santa…santa saw he was a good boy!!

“silver…santa left this for me?”

silver shepherd removed his ridiculous mask. his hair floofy and dark, his bangs dyed blue – a crescent shaped scar running down the left side of his face; a story he’d never tell anyone about.

“he sure did, bud. santa told me to tell you he’s –” a pause, the christmas cheer getting to him, “he’s sorry everyone forgot about you. even santa knows how it feels. people only care about him when…” people need saving “it’s winter. nobody listens….” to him when there’s meetings “to him when its not christmas.” he’s not even sure anyone but king remembered his name. “he knows you’ve been good all year, king.”

king tears up and tackles silver, hugging him tight, “…thank you for telling santa, silver, you’re the best, and i dont care what anyone else has to say.”

silver freezes up, hugging back king just as tight, sniffling. the two sharing their warmth as he smiles, the holiday cheer raising their spirits.

“now,” silver pulls away, “how about you get started on unwrapping. i’m sure santa didn’t want ya to just leave them there all night – you got some pretty good stuff, i heard!!”

and thats how the two spent their christmas night, together as king finally got the christmas he deserved, and silver shepherd saved the day.
