Now, this may not be the most technically impressive glitch, but I am about to make a court case essay for why this one is my favourite. And I know literally no one asked for that, but I like to be able explain why I like things.
(Technically not even Anti himself, but I won’t get into that. well, not too much.).
My favourite things about this is how damn subtle it is.
I don’t know if this is just me, but in my regular video where I’m expecting glitches, I can usually pick these glitches out from a mile away. If you generally pay attention to the tone or what Jack says that will relate to something Anti related, you can anticipate a glitch fairly easily.
But this, this one totally took me by surprise.
Let’s preface this with what happens before it.
“Stay vith me buddy!!”
I don’t know about you, but especially with how much us theorists villainised Schneeplestein and assumed him to be on Anti’s side with the admittedly, VERY LITTLE EVIDENCE we had in hindsight, this made me feel fucking awful. We crucified Schneep before we even had the chance to see him, and lines like this just reminded me how not only had the theorists failed Jack now, but Schneep too.
I digress.
Anyway, after that line, there is a noticeable pause. I assumed we were about to cut into the next section of the video upon my first viewing. And even for that pause of a split second, which is surrounded by a fast-paced video, made me uncomfortable.
Like I wasn’t meant to be seeing this.
There’s a slight distortion, but it’s a “blink and you’ll miss it” kind of thing, but due to what happens next, the implications are fucking huge of this moment.
And this honestly didn’t alarm me so much.
But this is a pivotal moment.
It’s his infection.
We return to the original footage.
Schneep is quiet. You can see him looking down at his patient. He’s thinking, gears are turning in his head. Something is going on in there.
But something has changed since that glitch. It’s not something I can really describe. Maybe his lips are curled ever so slightly into more of a smirk.
The smallest inclination of… some enjoyment out of this. But it’s subtle. It doesn’t consume him.
He’s still mostly there, in this moment. Anti is but a small tumor at this point.
It gets worse. He cracks a full out grin to himself. All the while, the screen shakes, it pigments to green more and more rapidly.
Like some kind of first- time murderer taking some twisted pleasure in what he’s doing.
But at this point, it’s mostly kept to himself. Like… it’s just a small part of him that enjoys this, and he knows it’s wrong.
He knows he should keep it to himself.
And finally, the infection at it’s most intoxicating and consuming.
He doesn’t care anymore. He enjoys it without shame, and looks at us directly as he flashes a huge grin and a big laugh for the audience. The screen shakes violently in how unstable and unhinged he has become.
I just love how progressive it is. It show’s Schneeplestein’s transformation beautifully in both his expression and how the filters and glitches are slowly applied. The line between Anti and Schneeplestein is blurred, they could almost be one in the same.
It’s not a cut to Anti or anything like that, which is what we usually get. It shows how Anti can corrupt people to the point we don’t even know who they are anymore, and abandon all their morals to enjoy a twisted, brutal scene. It’s just so unique and memorable to me, and I think it says a lot more about Anti and Schneep than any other glitch out there.
Maybe it was something easier to awaken in Schneeplestein; after all, we have seen Schneep’s violent tendencies in other videoes, and Anti’s influence just freed him from the kind of ashamed enjoyment he may have gotten out of it but kept to himself.
Or, who knows, maybe I’m just looking too much into it and Schneeplestein just si̸̋ͭͥ̈́̓̅͛m̳̠͖̣̭̃͆͊ply g͉̯̗̺͇̰̔ỏ́t͖̣̩̋̚ th̢͙̪e̛̥͍̟̰ g̷͚i̢̳̮̩̺̟̞g̫g̴̯l̶̼̩͔͙͕̗ḙ͉̯͚͎͝ͅs.
