Parents should not be reading your journals
Parents should not be searching through your trash
Parents should not be snooping on your private social media messages
Parents should not be taking your bedroom door off
Parents should not be invading your privacy
reblogging this because when they go through my phone and find my tumblr they’ll see this
As an actual mom, I approve this message. If your parents say it’s a normal part of parenting, no. No it’s not. They are wrong.
Man my dad ripped my door off its hinges, and by age 7 i was burning pages in my journals and got a password/uv light pen protected one to try and fucking have a shred of privacy, and now my mom acts like im as untrustworthy as her. It. Is. Not. Okay. You are fucking your kids up. You’re treating them like fucking criminals so stop your shit you gross little hellions
My mom used to look at all my messages with friends when I was still a child. I found some things saved into her mail a few days ago. I can’t never trust her again now and I keep hiding things.
My mom married a controlling sociopath when I was a kid and they put me through this hell on a regular basis. Even when I was a grown-ass adult no longer living in their house, I got a frantic call because my mom’s husband (whom I deliberately haven’t spoken to in several years) was stalking my blog under a perverse “fake username” and showed her some of the erotica I’d written. My mom was in tears and I couldn’t help but laugh.
They subjected me to all kinds of paranoid, privacy-shattering behavior when I was a kid, so serves them fucking right for snooping. Oh, and guess what? Their actions didn’t prevent his son from abusing me for years, nor did it keep me from exploring my queer identity. They failed on every level.
Sure, talk to your kid if you think there’s a possibility of danger. Maybe spend more time with them and take a genuine, non-judgemental interest in the shit they like. But don’t shatter their trust in you completely for no good reason. It’s hard to get that back.
Reblogging because this has shaped every aspect of who I am.
