Exactly.

The Inquisition tried Galileo for heresy in 1633 because of his heliocentric theory, his theory on tides and his theory on comets. They kept him under house arrest until the day he died. Science has always been political and fueled by ideologies.

And as always, the people arguing to “keep politics out of it” are bad people.  Michael Shermer?  Holy crap, the things this guy has said and done.  So this isn’t a surprising thing for him to say.
