Reworking an old mage (meant to be Solas) sketch from October Patreon sketches. Keep your bad drawings, usually they contain good ideas, and if not, they’re good for some laughs later.
(Although it’s worth saying I still don’t think I can draw noses properly as my style is always changing, but I certainly have improved over the years. XD)
Face forward:
This is the basic set up of how I draw a face, and I always start with the nose first, then everything else on the face.
Where the eyeline crosses the vertical faceline, I draw the top of the nose bridge, making sure the tops of the lines curve outwards towards where the eyebrows will go.
Keeping along the vertical faceline I draw the circle that is the tip of the nose roughly in the centre of the bottom half of the face.
Then I add the nostrils.
Then I erase the lines from the nose, and a little bit of the circle making the tip of the nose, just to keep the illusion of it’s roundness still there.
Face side:
(This is also a good reference for drawing the side of the face, if you want.)
From the eyeline I plan the eye, two line making an acute angle that represents roughly where relaxed eyelids sit (I keep this plan in usually when drawing so I can draw the eye within the angle, but for this, I’ve erased it out). I extend these lines out of the face; the points were the angle lines cross the face plans out the whole nose.
For the dip in the nose where it follows the dip in the eye sockets, I follower the circle of the head, then I continue on to draw the shape of the nose out from the face*. The bottom of the tip of the nose is the same point where the bottom line of the eye angle crosses out of the face. (*This varies depending on the shape of the nose as noses can be very different; I suggest looking up photo references for them.)
Then I add the nostrils (the holes of the nostrils are more obvious here than in facing forward as you would probably see when you look in the mirror) and a small line to represent where the nose curves off on the face, roughly where the eyes start.
