Trans-inclusive language in religious texts is SO IMPORTANT. There is nothing in some young people’s lives that can either validate or dehumanize them so quickly as how they see themselves represented in the words of their religion.
Gender euphoria is a concept that was made to be the opposite of gender dysphoria and describe the strong feeling of happiness that trans people experience when they’re being treated as their true gender. For some people, this feeling can be an indicator of being trans.
Please reblog to support the use of this term!
PROMOTE GENDER EUPHORIA
OKAY BUT FOR REAL, THIS IS INCREDIBLE. This is my first time coming across this term and I cannot even begin to explain how happy this makes me. Gender euphoria fits my experience so much better than gender dysphoria, a term I came across CONSTANTLY when trying to figure out who I was.
Throughout my life, I never had any noticeable dysphoria. I didn’t feel I was stuck in the wrong body and I wasn’t terribly self conscious about my chest. It wasn’t until I was in a group webcam chat that I even began to consider I might be trans.
Someone “mistook” me for a boy…and they were fairly confident about it too. Others in the chat corrected them, but it wasn’t until I told them myself, ‘Oh, yeah, I’m a girl.’ that they accepted it. But the thing that clicked in that moment was this alien feeling of absolute JOY being recognized as a boy. It honestly took me off guard. The further I went along in life, the more I yearned for and sought out retail workers that would call me sir and comments from my brother saying I look like a guy in photos. One time I was sick and someone said my voice was deep enough to be a guy’s, and suddenly, I could not stop talking. Those little things just made me so happy.
But for the longest time I doubted myself, and one of the reasons was because of the term ‘gender dysphoria’. From everything I was reading online, it seemed to me that gender dysphoria was the ONLY way you could be trans. And that screwed me over for a long time. I doubted myself a lot and even started to hate myself a little bit because I could’t let the idea of myself being trans go. (it also didn’t help that I was genderfluid, with an occasional lean towards being female, but that’s a whole ‘nother confusing addition to the pile of self doubt.) I eventually said screw it, I’ve had these feelings for long enough and strong enough, but it wasn’t a fun process getting to this point.
I guess what I’m trying to say with this incredibly condensed story of my life, is that gender EUPHORIA should be just as widespread as gender DYSPHORIA. It would help so many people like myself who were so confused for so long.
This isn’t my area of expertise, but this is right up @kaijutegu‘s alley. Thank you for being willing to do the appropriate research before bringing it in, and for using the process to educate your kids about what good husbandry takes and appropriate research before bringing home a pet!
OH MAN tree frogs are one of THE best classroom pets bar none, so long as you enforce “look, but don’t touch.” You’ll want to go with one of the hardier species. White’s tree frogs would probably be perfect- they’re cute, a great size, and easy to feed You can also keep them in groups- they’re pretty easy-going and will sometimes call to each other, which is cute. They’re an Australian species, so if you’re in the US, all the ones you’ll find are captive-bred- which means there’s a greatly reduced chance of parasites. Stickyfrogs keeps a really wonderful group of sweeties, if you want to see them in action. A good care sheet for them is located here: http://frogs.org.au/x/media/cs-caerulea.pdf
Now, what you want to look for when purchasing is a healthy frog! Frogs come i a lot of different colors, but generally you should be seeing healthy skin (no wounds, no inexplicable scars). Check the eyes- they should be bright and clear and not sunken in. If the jaw looks floppy, that’s a big no. The frog should be moist and should react when touched- a nonreactive frog is likely unwell.
But before you buy a frog, you gotta have a good frog home! And as far as supplies go, that depends on your budget, really! Josh’s Frogs has a complete tree frog kit that includes everything you need (except the frog). If that’s too much, you can definitely find a cheaper tank (you might be able to crowdsource this through your students’ parents, you’d be amazed how many people have old fish tanks in their garages or basements they’d like to get rid of, and if you clean it well, it’ll be fine) and other sources. Josh’s Frogs also sells tankless kits, so this might be an option for you, too! Your local pet store will have a lot of this stuff, too. The important thing to remember for amphibians is humidity- they need constant access to water, so a good bowl to soak in as well as proper misting is necessary. Since these will be classroom pets, you might even want to look into getting a misting system for overnights. You might even want to have two setups, one at home and one at school, so that you don’t have to worry about weekends or anything.
Craft stores can be good places to get fake plants, but you gotta be careful. Nothing with glitter, nothing too sharp, and nothing with metal. You’ll also want to make sure that any dyes are colorfast- soak any fake plants in hot water with a bit of white vinegar in it and see if any color bleeds out.
One thing I’d be very careful about is finding any materials from outside. Unfortunately, chytrid fungus is a real threat to amphibians, and it’s all over the place. It will kill your amphibians, and it sticks around for a long time- so to be safe, it’s probably a good idea to stick to stuff that’s packaged and purchased from known clean sources.
Good luck! Your kids’ll love having frogs in the classroom.
Reblogging to spread the knowledge! I hope this helps.
Some people threw white paint on it a few years back.
They want to be a victim so bad.
Fun Fact: That’s a statue of the fist which Joe Louis used to knock out Max Schmeling, Hitler’s favored heavyweight boxer in 1938. Schmeling won the 1st bout by knockout in round twelve, but Joe Louis came back in the follow-up match and laid him the fuck out in the 1st round.
Fun Fact: Schmeling was hated by the Nazis for losing to a black man and for having a Jewish manager, and he hated them right back, stating in 1975 that he was glad he’d lost the fight because the thought of the Nazis using him for propaganda purposes sickened him. He also personally saved the lives of two Jewish children and later became lifelong friends with Joe Louis.
So maybe don’t refer to him as “Hitler’s favored heavyweight boxer”…
Thank you for this additional info!
Reblogging this for the added facts and so people know that Schmeling wasn’t a Nazi or Nazi collaborator and was in fact a good man
Imagine hating Nazis so much that when you get beaten up your response is “Good, now they can’t use me as a role model.”
Things just transpired in my house hold that are equal parts offensive and hilarious… Here goes.
So my roommate, Dale, has a gf who does not live with us, but she’s here all the time. So Sunday when my gf was her we were on the couch and we kissed (scandalous, I know) and she saw it, and I’m pretty sure that’s the first time she’s seen us be affectionate, that’s neither here nor there.
So today she tells Dale she’s “uncomfortable” here and wants him to move out because she thinks me and my lady are going to hit on her or something, she doesn’t like living with lesbians, cause it’s not “normal”, so now I’m pissed. Then, Dale goes, “well you don’t live here, so it shouldn’t be a problem, just stop coming over”…things escalated and Dale is trying to break up with her, but she won’t leave our house….she locked herself in Dales room.
So, Dale barges in my room wearing a bathrobe and goes, “call every lesbian you know, we’re smoking this bitch out!” Then turns around and whips his robe like a cape…
And that’s the story of how there are 8 lesbians climbing through the window of Dales room…
Holy shit.
This is glorious
I like Dale. He’d break up with a bigoted girlfriend and he wears bathrobes like a cape. Not everyone would wear a bathrobe like a cape.
i fucking hate dating nerds one single time i wore a star wars shirt to see a dude and he was like, “wow are u wearing that to impress me” and i said, “star wars episode 4 was seen by approximately 110 million people during its initial theatrical run in 1977”
Congratulations. You’re dating people who for the longest time have been putting up with bullying, mocking, and scorn for most of their lives. That kind of shit stays with people. So imagine their surprise when they see a member of the opposite sex, who I’m assuming is really attractive in comparison to most people, wear attire that reps nerd culture. Which even though is accepted by the masses (if you’re reasonably attractive) is still rare. Now I’m not saying that you’re not allowed to be scornful I’m just saying expect it and don’t be surprised when you hear it. Ok? OK.
why i dont date fucking nerds: exhibit B
Bolded emphasis mine. Gross.
Stands on nearest chair: ATTENTION MALE NERDS. YOU ARE NOT SUFFERING FROM A SHORTAGE OF FEMALE NERDS. THERE ARE VAST NUMBERS OF US, AND WE RARELY HAVE A HARD TIME FINDING EACH OTHER. YOU ARE WITHOUT FEMALE COMPANY BECAUSE YOU ARE WHINEY ASSBABIES WHO THINK YOU OWN THINGS BECAUSE YOU LIKE THEM, AND BECAUSE YOU SOMEHOW THINK YOU SUFFER BULLYING WHEREAS GIRL NERDS SOMEHOW NEVER DO. STOP PRETENDING YOU GET TO BE ASSHOLES BECAUSE YOU HAVE A “TRAGIC PAST” OR YOU WILL DIE ALONE. IF YOU THINK GIRL NERDS DON’T GET BULLIED IT’S LIKELY BECAUSE THOSE GIRLS DON’T WANT TO TALK TO YOU, BECAUSE OF THIS SORT OF ATTITUDE.
also: fucking no one mocks nerds anymore. Game of thrones is the most watched show on tv, everyone and their mom is playing video games, dungeons and dragons is more popular than it’s ever been.
