Both Arrick Hearth-Tongue and Sigrid the Slayer were instrumental in the success of the victory of Markarth against the Forsworn, contributing to Ulfric Stormcloak’s siege of the city–but not without suffering the consequences. Arrick, already worn down from the great war, endured debilitating injuries that would hound him the rest of his life. Sigrid, though initially courted by Ulfric, turned him away in disgust after the killing of so many of Skyrim’s own citizens during the Incident–such a violent act, it’s said, that it haunted the rest of her days.

Each managed to escape the wrath of the Thalmor in the aftermath, with Sigrid even becoming a Thane of Markarth. Though they had only a few short years together, many said their love rivaled that of Fjori and Holgeir–and was to end just as bittersweet. Sigrid was killed quelling a Forsworn encampment near the city, and Arrick would likely have willingly followed her to Sovngarde soon after, if not for the sake of their daughter Ostara.

Though much of his actions were hindered in the later years of his life, Arrick maintained a well-run smithy in Markarth, often bringing clients from all over Tamriel in search of his talents with Dwarven metal. Nonetheless, he was arrested some time in early 4E 202 for Talos worship, a practice he had refused to abandon despite the White-Gold Concordat. On the day of his scheduled execution, he reportedly disappeared. Though both Ostara and the Dragonborn Ojakk were in the city at the time, neither could be connected with his apparent escape.
