I wanna talk about something serious real quick.
I’ve gathered that in Cologne people stayed after the show, per the norm, and they were told to get off the property or authorities would be called. This led to people not getting to meet Seán after the show and some people getting upset and asking him to say something in regards to it.
I’m going to say this very gently, because I realize coming from someone who met him this may sound cold or empty. First off, if you stay after and get to meet him that is wonderful!! I guarantee he loved being able to meet more people and enjoyed every second. Remember, though, that the show is not a convention and there is no guarantee you will get that chance. Multiple things can make it impossible for him to meet people. Time, the venue security, the amount of people, safety reasons, etc all have to be taken into consideration. I know in some cases he has gotten to stay but it doesn’t always happen. If you are going to the show please don’t get your hopes up too high and go enjoy the show for what it is. The show is absolutely wonderful, and you will be in the same room sharing this experience with hundred of like minded people and Seán himself!
Also, though from what I’ve gathered security was more than rude about it, remember the venues are on private property and they can legally ask you to leave. (I’m sure this law is the same in nearly all countries.) Seán can not do anything about this. He is just as much at their mercy as we are. He’s ‘renting’ the venue to use for the show. He has to follow the rules, too.
When we are asking Seán to speak out about certain things remember he is likely in legally binding contracts with venues, the touring company and the like. Because of those legalities he is in a precarious situation where most likely he really can’t speak out against things or he has to word things carefully. Don’t blame him for that. Please.
Sean 100% cares about everyone in this community. If he could, he’d meet all 20 million of us. He’d spend the time we want with him. He CARES. However he’s one singular human being and he can only do so much.
Please, I implore anyone to go see the show. It’s wonderful. Just don’t expect to meet him after. If you do get to meet him, that’s wonderful! But it’s not guaranteed.
