Alien: … All right now I know you’re making that up.

Human: No it’s real. Sometimes, it’s rare but sometimes, we choose to die, and then we can simply die. No need for poison or knives we just curl up and a few seconds later we’re dead.

Alien: You mean to tell me that humans, a species that can refuse to feel what should be agonizing pain if it’s inconvenient for them, a species has been known to lift multiple tons and fight off predators twice their size to save their young, a species that doesn’t know the meaning of the word impossible, can and does choose to die.

Human: Again it’s rare but yes, if worse comes to worst and all hope is gone, we have been known to just walk until we find a comfortable quiet spot and die right then and there. It happens most often in war but really it could happen after any sufficiently traumatic event. We just give up, we realize that there is no more hope of rescue, that we are truly alone, and then we die from that knowledge.

Alien: … I knew humans were pack bonded creatures and did best in groups but I didn’t realize that could happen if they were left too fight alone. I thought humans were some kind of indescribable.

Human: No. We are anything but indestructible.
