inevitable septiplier discourse on main

Hi, my name is Envy and if I don’t formally address things I get extremely stressed lol so here we go:

This is a personal post regarding my content revolving around Septiplier

Ever since the h3h3 podcast happened, a lot of hate erupted. The tumblr tag is full of “if you ship real people, you’re disgusting” etc. etc. Twitter has general hate posts, all that stuff.  The anger felt by what was mentioned during the Septiplier segment is justified and I am in no way trying to invalidate people’s feelings by this post.

The Septiplier fandom was extremely toxic and gross. It was taken too far and it resulted in this mess. I’m not going to talk too much about the ship though because that’s not what this post is about (+ this post would go on and on if I spilled all my feelings about this ship and how it was handled) but I feel like it’s important to note that all this toxicity was in the past.

The ship is long gone. I’ve been actively following Septiplier since 2015 and the tag and content are all dead. Sure you’ll see some new fanart or some new fic like, once a month but other than that 99% of people have completely left the ship and it’s been like that for awhile now. Sometimes there’s a handful of comments mentioning the ship in the comments section of Instagram or YouTube but it’s so minimal compared to how it used to be years ago.

There’s still a tiny fandom and that’s about it. There’s only one active Septiplier-centric ship blog that I know of and that’s my own side blog lol.

The ship is a quiet thing and that’s why I’m not going to stop drawing it just because of this podcast

Jack saying “don’t do it at all” when it came to making Septiplier content is lacking context and seeing posts taking his words out of context is disheartening.

When Jack said “don’t do it at all” he attached that statement to two things. 1) Whenever Septiplier content is made, it will always get associated with that toxic reputation. It’s extremely hard to look at Septiplier without thinking about the mess it became, no matter how small or harmless the post is and 2) as a result of that, people get bullied for their content. Another reason for why Jack said people should drop the ship is because he knows people get harassed over it, even if people are drawing aren’t drawing explicit things. No ship = no harassment, basically

Why I made the decision to continue to draw Septiplier after all this is a personal decision. I like this ship. It’s been a huge creative outlet for me for years and it’s made me very happy as a ship. If I’m going to get harassed despite tagging appropriately and making the effort to keep it out of Mark and Jack’s faces, then that’s a whole different problem. I feel as if it’s unfair that it’s my fault for getting literally harassed for doing something that essentially harmless when handled correctly.

At this point, if you’re seeing Septiplier content, block the person, reconsider the people you’re following if that content pops up on your feed, do whatever to make your fandom experience more enjoyable. Call out people (in a civil manner) when they’re being toxic and disrespectful. Attacking everyone this tiny shipping group does nothing but spread negativity.

If you still ship Septiplier somehow, be respectful and quiet about it. That’s literally all it takes to be a decent shipper. If you despise Septiplier, do what you need to do to make your fandom experience more enjoyable for you. Block people, filter words, etc.

Be kind to each other please

#fucking h3h3 just came to rock the now quiet boat#do you know how hard it was to make it quiet?#it’s dead leave us alone#and jack looked really uncomfortable was it really fucking worth it?#all to get a click bait title (x)

it’s true and you should say it.
h3h3 had no proper reason to show jack that fic and fanart. the ship has not been mentioned by jack or mark for over a year now it’s pretty clear they don’t want to talk about it and yet ethan forced jack to talk about it i cant believe we’re sleeping on this

This is pretty much my stance on the whole thing. Septiplier, for the majority of fans, is no longer a thing. There are only a small handful of us that still ship it, and from what I’ve seen a lot of that small group has only come into it recently when it was already dead or dying, myself included.

I came into the ship only about a year or two ago, and by then I was finding old content. Barely anyone puts out anything new. I enjoy the ship for their chemistry as characters, and those versions of Mark and Jack remain fictional for me. Actually shipping them in real life, though occasionally making me a little giddy at first, was never something I took seriously. From what I’ve seen, there were people in the fandom who took it way too far, and there are still a few out there that do.

When their girlfriends are receiving threats because of shippers who take it too seriously, it makes everyone pump the brakes and say “whoa, hold on, no! That’s not right.” And it really isn’t. You should never threaten or insult someone over a ship. It’s fictional, it’s meant to be a fun side thing, not the main focus and the source of hate or obsession. The girls still receive hate, even from people who don’t ship Septiplier. I saw a comment on Amy’s Instagram calling her something along the lines of a gold digging bitch for dating Mark, saying that she shouldn’t be dating him because she’s basically just dating him for popularity. NO! Drop that mentality, the boys can date who they want, the girls have done nothing to deserve such treatment. By acting in such a way, you cause the boys’ and their girlfriends distress and unhappiness. What kind of a fan are you if you’re willing to do harm like that???

Those of us that came in late and still ship it, we’ve been respectful and quiet, trying to keep it out of the boys’ attention so that it wouldn’t stir up anything, so that those of us who do still enjoy the ship can have our fun and not be harassed about it. And then here comes h3h3 stirring it back up with the general audience and making Jack uncomfortable about it. A BIG no-no if you’re going to be interviewing a guest is making them uncomfortable being there. The boys were done a long time ago, there was no reason to bring it up, other than they wanted to stir up trouble to gain views.

Now Jack’s doing his best to protect us from harm from other fans by saying “just don’t do it.” But we shouldn’t have to fear enjoying something when we’ve been fine all this time and haven’t caused harm.

I will personally still make Septiplier content, because I enjoy it and it’s been a great source of inspiration for me over the last year especially. I don’t make it to be hated, I don’t make Septiplier content for Mark and Jack. I make it for the fellow few fans and myself that still ship it respectfully to enjoy, without shoving it in the boys’ faces.

If you don’t want to see it, don’t follow people that make it. Block people. Ignore it. Let us go back to the calm waters we’d been sailing through this whole time before h3h3 stirred up the storm. We did nothing to you, or to them, leave us be.
