Archery

ashadowadminkuro:

Ok so lets say aliens have “some” knowledge of firearms, and with different planets come different atmosphere, introduce Archery.

The Goruud army landed on a planet where the atmosphere made it impossible for the humans firearms, and luckily their own. their forces marcher towards a large open field in front of the human base, A standard Goruud does not match a human in close combat but their large number proved annoying, they marched forward with confidence, suddenly the rhythm of their march was cut but loud whistling of mysterious sticks in the air, the soldiers look up as it rains down on them, suddenly their comrades are being cut down by these rods of steel, as they painfully marched forward they saw humans in the wall holding bent rods with strings attached, loading sharp rods into them, stretching them back as they set the rods loose and crash upon the marching soldiers. As they crept closer some humans grabbed a weapon similar albeit smaller, a bent rod resting on a platform similar to a rifle, a crossbow, the line held their front shields as crossbow bolts ripped through straight, impaling the bolts into their hides as the front fell, and then another, and another, the Goruud army fell back as the mountains of dead had their flesh rot under their feet, Human Archers were sent in to reinforce the outposts, but the forests where the Goruud hid were not safe either.

In the dead of night archers snuck in the trees, Rangers, there were called, and silently killed off officers or men who raised morale, spiritual leaders, and cowards were killed, the human’s laughing at this “fish barrel” of targets made the Goruud campaign on this planet as costly as any other, and as most campaigns go, an utter failure. Soldiers turned to crazed madmen as human laughter and the silent whistles of their bows killed their brothers in arms. Each night every soldiers prayed to their wayward gods that a Ranger does not pick them next.

A year passes, one year, human soldiers parade through their cities and villages telling the tales of humiliation of Goruud forgetting that before guns, before cannons, gunships, LARGE scale fleets, they had the bow, a primitive tool that stood the test of time, countless millenia it was used in warfare, and in the future it became a staple in worlds where gunpowder and explosives were unfit in the atmosphere.
