Dad and the Zombie
Disclaimer #1: this is set in @asrisartarena verse, or as close as I could get it, so full credit to her and the anon who sent in this idea on her blog
Disclaimer #2: this is not the final version, but I’m not sure if I’ll rewrite it so… And it’s called a draft because I did it on my typewriter and so couldn’t get rid of sentences at a time and rewrite while typing. It was literally writing what I thought.
It had been several days since they initially met before the invitation was sent. This made sense considering most were still reeling from the revelation that, not only did the others exist, but they could all interact with eachother. Those in the Septic house came to the decision they should get to know their metaphorical neighbours, and so git Marvin to send a letter that would act as a teleportation device when activated. The letter contained the offer of coming over, and the time in which teleportation would work, along with the necessary comment if how they are not obligated to come if it is at all inconvenient.
Marvin, knowing that it would be the middle of the night if sent right then, waited until breakfast over in Florida, and so it appeared on an unoccupied space on the kitchen side as the Sides were eating. Logan was the one to notice the letter while placing the dishes in the sink, with Patton immediately rushing to open it once Logan had voiced this. He giggled and jumped as he read, excited at the prospect of seeing others like them, before Roman cleared his throat to gain attention,
“Padre, perhaps it would be best if one were to read aloud so as others may know what it says.” The other two nodded, and looked back at Patton waiting for the message. Patton started as though this hadn’t occurred to him, then looked down bashfully and blushed before going on to say,
“Sorry, kiddos, got a bit over-excited. Anyway, it’s the SepticEgos, they’ve invited us to stay for a few hours tomorrow and we should definitely go. I’LL MAKE COOKIES!” Dropping the letter onto the base, he rushed between cupboards to gather ingredients. Virgil had a shocked look on his face before shrugging and leaving to his room, Logan quickly doing the same as he needed to plan out what would happen in his absence. Leaving Prince and Dad to the baking, making we many and varied types of cookies as they could.
THE NEXT DAY-just before they arrived
The house was the cleanest it has been in months, since the last time they had visitors actually, with Marvin magicking dust away and Chase and Schneep doing most of the physical tidying, it was spotless in no time. They’d gathered in the living room to wait for the Sides arrival, and not too long after four figures fazed in. All wear their signature outfit which is the only indication of who’s who am all carry tubs upon tubs of baked goods, piled so high no-one could see their faces.
“Hello! We brought snacks for everyone, I made sure to make lots of different types so if someone has allergies or preferences, they’re bound to be some!” While they had been talking Jameson and Schneep came over to start taking containers, revealing the speaker to be Patton. Tubs were soon set out on the table and the egos could see they were clearly labled. They quickly went through introductions in case someone forgot names, and split into groups to talk.
Logan, having finished organising the containers, went to sit with the doctor and the silent man to initiate a conversation in sign. Roman went to the couple, Marvin and Jackie, interested in their powers and hero status that mirrors his own. Meanwhile, virgil skulked to a beanbag in the corner of the room, unsure what to do in the new situation, headphones on and stimming to keep his anxiety becoming too much. Chase was engaged with Patton, talking about general baking, what recipes they used and moving towards the kitchen to make hot chocolate to go with the cookies. Soon the drinks were ready and handed out, and Patton noticed Robbie was missing and offered to take some up to him while Chase stayed with Virgil.
“Make sure to have some cookies,” Dad called out heading upstairs with what he was told was Robbie’s favourite cookies and two mugs of cocoa. He soon came across a black and white striped door with purple letters spelling ‘ROBBIE’ and knocked a few times. The door opened and out popped a messy purple head that looked up and blank eyes blinked before he nodded and let Patton into the room. Quiet repetitive music played, and a soft yellow glow filled the room that was easy on the eyes. Patton could see there was colouring stuff on the floor and a half finished drawing.
“Hi, Robbie, I brought cookies and cocoa to share, could I join you with your colouring?” Patton sure did hope so, the zombie was one he saw himself really getting on with, luckily robbie didn’t spend much time thinking before nodding once again.
“Great, I’ll just put these to the side of the pencils so they don’t get knocked over.” He did so, and both moved to sit down and draw. Mostly humming filled the room when Robbie asked;
“Wa fa’rit colour? An a’mul?” He then stuffed a cookie in his mouth, munching happily, making appreciative noises.
“Oh, those are questions and a half, aren’t they! I’d have to say I really like the blue I’m wearing, which is why I wear it. I love cats, but I’m allergic like Thomas, so I guess puppies. They’re just so cute and fluffy!” Patton wiggled on the spot here, and so did Robbie,
“We ‘lergic to cat too! My fa’rit colour is pur’le, and green like Ati hair!” This relaxed conversation continued, neither noticing that they had lookers on, up until they deserved more cookies for all their hard work drawing and came down for more.
The two that had witnessed were a lot less relaxed, having calmed down from their tears, happy though they were. Virgil at the encouragement of Chase had gone to talk to Anti, and quickly bonded over their initial labelling of evil and their scarier abilities. As the protectors they’d noticed two of them weren’t there, hadn’t been there for that while time and went looking for them, worried. Checking room by room, they came across Robbie’s and looked in, for them to hear how happy thr two were. Virgil was glad Patton was genuinely happy, what with him being stressed after the ‘lying’ fiasco as well as looking after the rest of the sides. While anti heard the comment if how Robbie’s favourite colour was because of him, including how nice it was that someone from outside the house was being so patient and kind with his little brother, he was quick to tears. Quietly closing the door they left for downstairs, eyes brimming with tears. The others worried but calmed when the situation was explained, and when Patton and Robbie cane down for more cookies they were brought in for a hug.
All of them settled in the living room and watched a film with their home baked snacks, and after their impromptu nap after the movie ended they parted ways. Patton promised to visit and make sure to bring more yummies with him, and Robbie offered to draw with him again. The others inwardly ‘aww’d’ abd said goodbye to their new friends. Excited for their next meeting.
