Captain’s Log: Day 110 of 854After the attack, to unwind, the human crew deemed it necessary to discuss how strong or tough they were by showing off injuries and trying to decide which was the best. Most talked about childhood injuries, mostly how they broke a bone doing something dumb and crazy. We tried joining in with the scar on our arm from the Sidtara attack. Many agreed that was tough but there were those that said they had worse.
O’bas showed scars on her legs, they were quite small but we were told it hurt a lot. She was a victim of a drive by, where humans shoot at other humans from a car, often leading to bad aim. She was playing outside when she was shot. One bullet went through her calf muscle, “Luckily” she said. The other bullet hit her upper leg and lodged into the bone, that required surgery to remove.
Alyssa was one showing scars from a broken bone. She said she had it worse because while weight lifting and doing squats, the weight somehow became too much and broke her shin bone which then proceed to stab through her skin. She did indeed have one of the largest scars.
Todd joined in by taking off his shoe and sock to show a long, thin scar, the length of half his foot. Apparently there is an old earth game called “chicken.” Chicken is an earth bird that is known to be easily scared but doesn’t have anything to do with the game. The idea of the game is to have 2 humans stand or sit across from each other and then throw a knife between their and the others foot. With each throw, the separate feet are moved closer together until one is stabbed and is declared the winner or one forfeits or “chickens out,” and is declared the loser. Todd won but we are not sure you would call it that.
Fingers, a human engineer, showed a stumped hand where he lost 2 fingers. He was building a gift for a family member. He said he started the project late and the birth anniversary was quickly approaching. In his haste, he accidentally lost 2 fingers to a saw blade. He bragged that even with the accident and 2 less fingers, he was still able to complete the gift in time.
The winner to everyone’s surprise was Natasha. She was one of the quietest humans on the ship so it seemed bizarre she would even have a scratch on her. She said that she was working on her computer one night. She noticed her internet was not working properly so she headed to the roof. While fixing the electric and telephone line box, a storm rolled in. To reach the Electric box, she went upstairs and outside to a small separate building on the roof. The problem was most people in her building did not know what the reason for the building was so they stored odd items in there, like rakes and tools for roof top gardens or boxes of stuff people didn’t have room for in their quarters. She had to climb or crawl her way through just to reach the box. She also stated this in the reason she now has her hair in a bun when working because she had left it down but when leaving, it repeatedly caught on many items, she thought she may be bald by the time she left. Once out, she was closing the door but somebody’s shovel kept falling in the way of the door. She went to yank it out and throw it on the ground in frustration but that is when she was hit. That is when she rolled up her sleeve, pulled up her shirt, and rolled up the pant leg to show the path the lightening flowed through her. She said that it literally blew off one of her shoes and burnt her clothes on that half of her body. She said that she is now “one with the internet, electricity flows through her veins.”
They continued this talk for a long period even though a winner was declared. We don’t see how this helps destress or how being injured or not makes one stronger, specially when we have seen many complain about a cut from a piece of paper.
