myopicmickey:

Here’s an idea for the “aliens think we’re weird” train: The Hypnic Jerk, otherwise known as being startled awake just as you were about to fall asleep. It can be caused by irregular sleep schedules or anxiety amongst other things, but it happens randomly to super healthy people too. It’s theorized that we evolved to have it back when our ancestors slept in trees because sometimes falling asleep can actually feel like falling and their bodies just developed an alarm system to keep them from falling off their branch.

So imagine sharing sleeping quarters with aliens and having one of them stare at you curiously as you curse at yourself because you were /almost/ finally asleep. And you gotta explain our primate evolution and the difficult to conceptualize feeling of falling.
